Like most road races, Courage Against Cancer has a committee of passionate individuals supporting a great cause, but unlike most, this race takes place in a community most North Dakota individuals have never visited! Located southeast of Bismarck, ND, the population of both towns is around 150 people and race organizers would love to see the race participants outnumber the population of both towns. “This race actually started with a few friends who wanted to do something a little crazy after battling a cancer diagnosis,” said Denise, race chair. “After going through cancer treatment and surviving, friends decided to walk from Zeeland to Hauge to celebrate survivorship and just because they could.” The neighbors rallied around the walkers and soon other individuals were joining and supporting them. “We thought, if people want to walk/run/bike with us, we should turn it into a road race and raise money to help other local individuals battling cancer,” said original racer Joyce. “Courage Against Cancer participants are sure to feel the support and generosity of small town North Dakota during this special day.” Race day includes a half marathon starting at the Zeeland school at 8:30 a.m., a 5K run/walk starting at the Hauge Amvets at 9:30 a.m., freewill lunch, memorial balloon release, door prizes and more! Proceeds from the race will go to the Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation.
